Meet the Author
Teacher, business owner and single parent. Originally
from Columbus Ohio, she grew up in the 1960’s, when time
seemed slower, when everyone knew their neighbors, and
children had to be home when the streetlights came on. After
high school, she left home to earn her BA in Communications
at Ohio University, was married and later earned her MBA
from Ohio Dominican University. She has three children, Elise, Christina and Jonathan and JaLisa, Jonathan’s wife, who she affectionately refers to as her “new daughter”. The newest member of the family is Joy, her first grandchild who is the apple of her eye! Patricia has worked at the intersection of Christianity, Education & Community for over 35 years. She enjoys international and domestic travels with her children and is an avid volunteer in her community.
Where it all began...
I never strived for my children to be perfect. Because, let's face it, perfection is relative. Instead, I strived to build excellence; optimizing their gifts and talents so they could reach their potential. This book was derived from my twenty-two year journey in raising all three children to that level of excellence, while dealing with peer-pressure, depression, bullying and other adolescent obstacles. I believe EVERY child has gifts, strengths and talents. The challenge is in discovering and nurturing them to a level of excellence, without crushing their spirit or ruining your relationship with them. Putting into practice these eight principles not only changed the trajectory of their lives but empowered me as well. Children are unique so the best news is that these principles are transformative for any age. My hope is that this book will inspire and guide parents to discover and awaken the excellence in their child, just as I did.
